Weather compensation systems

Weather compensation is a communication between the boiler and an outside temperature sensor. Weather compensation tells the boiler to alter the temperature of the radiators to match the extra heat loss caused by a cold day, leading to a more consistent, comfortable environment and savings on your fuel bills.

Programmers

A programmer allows you to specify when the heating comes on to match your lifestyle and heating requirements.

With a regular boiler with a cylinder, you will need a two-channel programmer.  One channel that allows you to program when the hot water is being produced and the other channel for the heating in the home

For a combi boiler, you only require a single channel programmer as its is only the heating that requires time controlling - your hot water is on demand anyway.

Thermostats

A thermostat senses the temperature of a system so that the system's temperature is maintained near the desired setting.  These can either be wall mounted or mobile enabling you to move them from room to room.

Thermostatic radiator valves (TRVs)

Thermostatic Radiator Valves sense the air temperature around them and regulate the flow of water through the radiator. They should be set at a level that gives you the room temperature you want. TRV’s do not control the boiler

Smart systems

Smart thermostats are a smart technology that let you gives you greater control over your home's temperature via a smartphone, tablet or desktop.

The components of the smart system plug into your boiler and via your wifi communicate using an app. You will need a good wifi signal in your home and a specific heating system to allow this smart technology to work.

Carbon monoxide detectors

Carbon monoxide is an odourless, colourless and tasteless gas is known as the silent killer.  It is caused by fuels not burning completely, including wood, gasoline, coal, propane, natural gas, and heating oil.

This unburned fuel can come from anything from clothes dryers, water heaters, ovens, ranges or a fireplace.

Fitting a carbon monoxide detector will alert you audibly to the build up of gases.

All rented properties must now be fitted with a carbon monoxide detector.
